UT Volleyball Wins Rematch

TAMPA - The rematch of last year's NCAA Division II volleyball national championship match went to top-ranked Tampa (20-1) as the Spartans handed North Alabama (16-12) a 30-25, 34-32, 30-23 loss.

Erin Clark led the Spartans with a team-high 17 kills, and Alisha Green added 14. Gabriela Saade had a team-high 36 assists.

In other volleyball action, junior Kelsey Bowers had career highs of 17 kills and six digs to lead 10th-ranked Florida to a 30-24, 29-31, 30-17, 30-20 win against host Auburn. ... Sophomore Chelsea Armer had 18 kills as Saint Leo (21-8) tied its record for wins in a season with a 31-29, 30-23, 21-30, 30-27 win against Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Tech.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Freshman Karly Findorff and Stacy Bishop scored as Florida (8-4-2, 4-2 SEC) posted its fourth consecutive shutout with a 2-0 victory against visiting Auburn. ... Host Cincinnati scored three goals in the first half in a 3-0 victory against South Florida (4-6-2, 3-1-1 Big East).

WOMEN'S GOLF: South Florida senior Christina Jones shot par 72 and is tied for third after the first round of the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C. USF is in 20th place after a first-round 312, 13 strokes behind leader East Tennessee State.

Moore Leads At Fry's

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Ryan Moore, a 24-year-old former U.S. Amateur champion, matched his career low round with a 7-under 63 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead halfway through the Fry's Electronics Open at Grayhawk Golf Club. Moore, who has three second-place finishes in his three years on the tour, was at 11-under 129.

Australian Mark Hensby was one of three tied at 8-under 132 after a career-low round of 61. Ben Crane and Daisuke Maruyama also were at 132.

The event's biggest name, Phil Mickelson, shot 70 for a 1-over 141 and missed the cut.

LPGA: Despite wind gusts up to 20 mph, Suzann Pettersen birdied the final two holes for a 3-under 69 and a share of the first-round lead in the Hana Bank KOLON Championship at Gyeongju, South Korea. Catriona Matthew was two strokes back at 71 along with Jeong Jang, Hyun-Hee Moon and Joo Mi Kim.

CHAMPIONS: Tour rookie Mark O'Meara shot an 8-under 63 to take the first-round lead in the AT&T Championship. John Cook, making his second start, and Wayne Levi were two strokes back after bogey-free 65s.

Nadal Upset At Madrid

MADRID, Spain - Rafael Nadal, coming off a five-week layoff because of ailing knees, lost to David Nalbandian 6-1, 6-2 in the Madrid Masters quarterfinals. This was Nadal's most lopsided defeat in three years.

Roger Federer downed Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (4), 6-4 to set up a matchup against 112th-ranked Nicolas Kiefer.

ZURICH OPEN: Justine Henin reached the semifinals at Zurich, Switzerland, after defeating teenager Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-2. She will play Nicole Vaidisova, who defeated Alona Bondarenko 6-1, 6-4.

Mavs' Howard Gets 2 Games

DALLAS - Mavericks forward Josh Howard was suspended for the first two games of the regular season, punishment for a fight with Sacramento center Brad Miller in an exhibition game Tuesday. Howard was ejected after delivering a forearm to the back of Miller's neck.

MEDIA: Columnist Rick Reilly is leaving Sports Illustrated after 22 years to join ESPN, The New York Times reported on its Web site. It is not clear what Reilly's role will be at ESPN.
