PALM HARBOR - A fire of undetermined origin caused about $20,000 damage to a home early Sunday morning. The house's occupants, a woman and her teenage sons, along with a dog and a cat, escaped unharmed, although the animals were brought out of the house after the fire was brought under control.
The 7:20 p.m. alarm at 2405 Eagle Chase Drive brought firefighters from the Palm Harbor Fire Rescue, who said they saw smoke showing from the front of the home as they arrived. The occupants already were outside.
Firefighters brought the fire under control within minutes, according to a fire-rescue news release. The woman, whose name was not immediately released, suffered minor injuries and sought medical attention on her own.
The dog was rescued from a bedroom and the cat was later found unharmed hiding under a couch.
Investigators said the fire started in a bedroom on top of a mattress, but the exact cause remained unclear.
