TAMPA - A woman in a green Honda Civic was taken to Tampa General Hospital after it crashed into a building this morning.
According to Tampa Fire Rescue Capt. Bill Wade, the woman was southbound on North 21st Street when her car was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup eastbound on Columbus Drive.
Tampa police cited the woman, 19-year-old Maria Torres, of Riverview, with running a red light.
It took rescuers about 30 minutes to free Torres from her car. It took another half-hour for the wreckers to remove the car from the building. The intersection then was reopened.
Joe Hankins, 67, the driver of the pickup, and his passenger, Stephanie Washington, 34, were not hurt, Wade said.
The building, at North 21st Street and Columbus, is vacant and has been struck several times, Wade said. Tampa code enforcement workers are attempting to contact the building's owner.
