SARASOTA - A man who was looking through a dumpster behind a Sarasota Blockbuster video store found several boxes of paper with sensitive financial information from customers.
The store on Fruitville Road had discarded the documents without shredding them. Credit card numbers, addresses and other information from people who had applied for Blockbuster cards were in the trash.
Also in the boxes was paperwork from job applicants. The applications contained Social Security numbers.
A spokesman from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said there is no special requirement for how a company disposes of sensitive information.
A Blockbuster spokesperson said throwing away customer applications violated the company's policy for handling sensitive information.
