TAMPA - The Florida Senate Committee on Children, Families and Elder Affairs has scheduled a public hearing for tonight on the North Dale Mabry Highway campus of Hillsborough Community College to hear comments about adoption and foster care.
The hearing will begin at 6:30 and last until 9 p.m. and will be on the first floor of the Student Services Building.
Among the groups expected to be represented will be the gay community, which is offering an organized front tonight to change a Florida law that prohibits them from adopting children.
Securing Our Children's Rights board member Cathy James said she has sent word out and hopes for a large turnout of people who want the law changed.
"We are asking that they repeal the ban" on adoptions by gays, she said Monday afternoon.
Those who want to speak at the hearing should show up at 5:30 p.m. to sign in, James said. Each speaker will have three minutes.
