PALM HARBOR - Two men were arrested and charged in connection with today's robbery of a 7-Eleven convenience store clerk with a money deposit bag, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Robert Williamson, 49, and John Devlin, 47, both of 3895 Tanager Place, are accused in the 10:30 a.m. robbery of the store clerk, who was punched and placed in a choke hold.
The victim told deputies she was walking to her car from the convenience store at 1290 East Lake Road when she was approached from behind. She told deputies a man ran off with the money bag.
The suspect ran to a nearby office complex, where he got into a pearl-white Cadillac DeVille and drove away. Deputies spotted the vehicle parked in front of the men's residence.
Deputies approached Devlin after he walked out of the house. He denied wrongdoing or knowing the location of Williamson, authorities said.
Williamson came out about an hour later and he initially denied knowledge of the incident. Deputies said Williamson later acknowledged the robbery and said he hid the money in an ottoman inside the house.
Williamson was charged with robbery and Devlin was charged with being an accessory to the robbery. The men were arrested just before 2 p.m.
