RIVERVIEW - Marnie and Chuck Hulan of Lithia brought their children, Ellie, 7, and Olivia, 5, to the Brandon Fresh Market in hopes of finding some familiar fare.
'We used to live in California, and the fresh market would be a regular stop on Sundays,' Chuck Hulan said during the family's recent outing to the market at Winthrop Town Centre. 'It'd be nice to see more local farmers participating.'
Organizer Olga Santamaria already has drawn about 30 vendors to the fresh market. Wild honey from Zephyrhills, fresh German bread baked hours before the market opens and fine handcrafts are among the many offerings available.
Fresh flowers and produce, handmade pasta and homemade butters and jams from Plant City round out the offerings.
The market will be open each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through May near the corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road.
'The weather has been just perfect for it,' Santamaria said. 'Even when we closed ... people were walking up looking for the market.'
Glorya Headrick of Brandon loaded her bag with fresh garlic, onions, tomatoes and bananas during her recent visit. 'This is much more fun than going to the grocery store,' she said.
