TAMPA - Seffner Christian will look to repeat as district champion when it hosts the Class 1A-District 3 fall soccer tournament today.

Seffner (17-3-3, 12-0) is the top seed in a four-team, single-elimination tournament that includes Bayshore Christian, Citrus Park Christian and Lecanto Seven Rivers Christian, with the winning team advancing to regionals.

Seffner's undefeated district run includes two wins against each of the other three teams by a combined score of 29-3.

Seffner will face Citrus Park Christian at 5 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader. Bayshore Christian (7-10) plays Seven Rivers (11-3-1) in the first game at 3 p.m. The title game is 4:30 Friday.

The success the Crusaders have had against the three other tournament teams has Coach Mark Canterbury hoping his players stay focused.

'It's a little frightening having beaten each teams twice this season,' Canterbury said. 'We need to make sure we don't go into these games thinking the other teams are going to lay down easy; we need to challenge them from the start.'

The Crusaders are led by captains Ben Cock and Mark Sentovich, along with leading goal scorer Steven Cunningham.

'Steven has great speed,' Canterbury said. 'He has a natural shot that has improved through the season.'

The Crusaders also rely on speed and control from Austin Parimore.

'Austin is a hard-nosed player,' Canterbury said. 'The intensity goes wherever he is on the field.'

Bayshore Christian will look to shut down Seven Rivers forward Shane Lecouris when the Faith Warriors take on the second-seeded Warriors.

Bayshore relies on forwards Robby Dyer and Nathan Romo. Dyer leads with 15 goals.

Coach Chad Clark said he moved Romo from midfield midway through the season, partially because of losing Dyer for a few games when he had a front tooth knocked out. However, upon Dyers' return, the two saw success, winning the first three games together at forward.

Lecouris was the leading scorer for Seven Rivers in the regular season with 36 goals.
