SARASOTA - Blockbuster video sent a letter about corporate document shredding policies to all its stores this week after a Sarasota store's membership forms and employment applications were discovered in a trash container.
The letter was a reminder to about 4,000 stores that the company requires all documents generated in the store be destroyed when no longer kept on file, a company spokesman said Wednesday.
The discarded forms from the Blockbuster video store at Fruitville Road and Honore Avenue included names, addresses, credit card numbers and Social Security numbers — a treasure trove for identity thieves.
"Our stores have shredders and we have procedures in place to protect our customer information," corporate spokesman Randy Hargrove said Wednesday. "What's been reported on this was an isolated incident."
