Tony Wasn't Whacked, 'Sopranos' Creator Suggests

Published: October 24, 2007

Just when we had made our peace with 'The Sopranos' finale and moved on with our lives, David Chase has stirred things up again.

Breaking his silence months after the HBO mob drama ended its run, he is offering a belated explanation for that blackout at the restaurant. He strongly suggests that Tony Soprano didn't get whacked moments later as he munched on onion rings with his family at Holsten's.

Mostly Chase wonders why so many viewers got so worked up over the series' non-finish.

'There WAS a war going on that week, and attempted terror attacks in London,' Chase says. 'But these people were talking about onion rings.'

The interview, included in ''The Sopranos': The Complete Book,' published this week, finds Chase exasperated by viewers who were upset that Tony didn't meet explicit doom.

Redford Hopes 'Lions' Encourages Youths

Robert Redford hopes his new film, 'Lions for Lambs,' about U.S. military action in Afghanistan, will encourage American youth to 'take command of their voice.'

In the United States, 'we have lost lives, we have lost sacred freedoms, we have lost financial stability, we have lost our position of respect on the world stage,' the Oscar-winning filmmaker told a news conference Tuesday.

'I can only speak for my own country, I cannot speak for other countries - but I assume it is similar in some countries,' Redford, 70, said. 'But the future is going to belong to young people and young people have to take command of their voice.'

'Lions for Lambs,' which follows six individuals over the course of an hour, is being shown out of competition at the Rome Film Festival.

'I Couldn't Get My Breath,' Osmond Says

Marie Osmond says she doesn't know why she fainted during ABC's live broadcast of 'Dancing With the Stars,' but it may have something to do with allergies.

Osmond and her partner, dancer Jonathan Roberts, the first performers on Monday night's show, had just finished a samba and were listening to comments from the judges when she suddenly toppled.

'I feel bad that it happened,' the effervescent 48-year-old singer told 'Entertainment Tonight.'

'Right at the beginning ... I started getting lightheaded. The only thing I can think of, I have allergies. ... The air quality in Los Angeles is terrible. And I think I just couldn't get my breath,' Osmond said.

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon has two bundles of joy.

The former 'Jamie Foxx Show' actress and her husband, talent agent Michael Nilon, welcomed twin boys Thursday in Los Angeles, People magazine says.

'We're so in love with them,' Beauvais-Nilon said. 'They boys are just gorgeous.'

Jax Joseph Nilon was born at 8:30 p.m., weighing 4 lbs. 7 oz., and Jaid Thomas Nilon was born a minute later and was two ounces heavier. The boys have a big brother, 15-year-old Oliver, from the actress' previous marriage.
