TAMPA - Seniors Ashlea Ballengee and Jannica Mollett led the way for Bayshore Christian as the Faith Warriors made quick work of Berean Academy 25-8, 25-16, 25-23 in the semifinals of the Class 1A-District 10 tournament Tuesday.
Bayshore Christian will look to capture its 11th district title on Thursday night in the district final against Cambridge.
Mollett had a team-high 14 kills in the victory to go with Ballengee's 22 assists. Junior Samantha Stokes had eight kills and three service aces, libero Sara Lucia had seven digs and freshman Gabrielle Fernandez had three service aces.

'That's our senior leadership,' Bayshore Christian coach Melanie Humenansky said. 'Ashlea is our No. 1 setter and Jannica is our No. 1 hitter, so put the two together and they're tough.'

The Faith Warriors set the tone early in the first game, scoring the first 10 points behind three kills from Mollett and two kills from Valencia King. Bayshore Christian, however, got lackadaisical in the third set, keeping the Lions in the game with numerous unforced errors.

'Yeah, we got too loose because we normally don't have as many substitutions as we did in this game,' Ballengee said. 'So it's kind of different seeing people in different rotations, so we were pretty loose.'

In the first match, Cambridge defeated Seffner Christian 25-18, 25-21, 25-18.

CLASS 2A-DISTRICT 9: Top-seeded Tampa Prep and No. 2 Indian Rocks Christian had little difficulty dispatching their opponents, advancing to a rematch of last year's district championship and a rubber match for this season.

Tampa Prep (13-12) received 13 kills and nine digs from junior outside hitter Alena Ransom, nine digs and five blocks from Dana Malinowski, 10 digs from Megan Aschenbrenner and 26 assists from Caroline Dillabough to sweep No. 4 seed Bishop McLaughlin (8-13) 25-12, 25-19, 25-20. Indian Rocks Christian (24-2) had an even easier time dispatching third-seeded Calvary Christian (12-11), sweeping the opening match 25-18, 25-14, 25-6.

Brianne Yeates led the Golden Eagles with 14 kills, while Liz Schaner added 11. Jessica Jones had 16 digs and Liz Zeitler chipped in with 12, and Tabitha Henley finished with 39 assists.

CLASS 1A-DISTRICT 9: Top-seeded Canterbury will face No. 2 Lakeside Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lakeside Christian after both won three-game semifinals.

Lakeside Christian defeated Academy at the Lakes 25-15, 25-15, 25-14. Canterbury had a bit more of a test in beating Oldsmar Christian 25-16, 25-18, 25-19.

Lakeside Christian (14-6) won largely on the play of 5-foot-3 Lauren Dugan. The five-year starter had five kills, 12 assists and nine aces. She is one kill away from 100 for the season. Hannah Ray added nine kills and eight assists.

Alexis Conway led the way for Canterbury (14-12).

'She served well in the second and third game where there were seven or eight points scored in crucial points in those games,' Coach Dave Smith said.
