TALLAHASSEE – Florida State athletics director Dave Hart and the school have finalized an agreement to end his 12-year reign as head of FSU's athletic department. Hart has a press conference scheduled for 4 p.m. to discuss the agreement.
Hart was notified by school president T.K. Wetherell in a letter dated June 1 that he would not be retained once his contract expired in January 2009. Hart signed a 10-year contract extension in 1999 and has spearheaded several major fundraising and building projects on campus, including the construction of a $10 million basketball training facility that serves the men's and women's teams.
At the time the letter was released in late June, Hart released a statement saying he wanted to serve out his contract.
"Since my arrival at Florida State, I've had a desire and design to finish my athletics administration career as a Seminole," Hart said in the statement. "If, in the final analysis, that is not possible, then I will do the best I can as long as I am in that role.''
It remains uncertain whether Hart has another job lined up or will remain involved with FSU in some capacity.
