TAMPA - The Crosstown Expressway has been closed by the Tampa Police Department as crews repair a damaged natural gas line.
No evacuations have been issued and the toll highways was closed as a precaution, police said.
A private company was digging for a water line when they accidentally hit a natural gas line near Brorein and Morgan streets in downtown Tampa shortly after 9 tonight, said police spokeswoman Andrea Davis.
Workers from Tampa Electric Co. arrived on the scene about 9:28 p.m. to shut off the gas. It is unclear how long the Crosstown Expressway will be closed.
