TAMPA - A teenager is recovering from being stabbed Wednesday, Tampa police said.
Police say details are scarce because the injured teenager refused to cooperate and investigators could not find witnesses who would speak out.
The stabbing occurred about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at 19th and East Emma streets, police said.
They say the stabbing stemmed from a confrontation at Middleton High School on Wednesday, but they did not have details on the confrontation. Officers went to North 19th and East Emma in response to a 911 call and found the wounded teenager.
Police said the teenager, who was stabbed in the lower chest, was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where tests showed the wound had caused fluid to build up around his heart. He underwent surgery and later was listed in stable condition, police said.
