LUTZ - Safer cycling and bicycle giveaways will be at the center of today's bicycle safety seminar.
The Lutz Bike Rodeo is planned from 9 a.m. to noon at Lutz Elementary School, 202 Fifth Ave. S.E.
Organizers expect 100 to 125 school-age children at the event, which is held at a different Lutz elementary school each year.
The free safety seminar is open to any young cyclist, including those who are home-schooled.
Eight new bicycles will be given away, two each hour, organizer Auralee Buckingham said.
Volunteers will inspect the chains, brakes and handlebars of bicycles for children who bring them. Everyone will be fitted for a bike helmet.
After registering with a parent, youngsters may pedal through an obstacle course to learn safe riding skills.
The event is organized by the Lutz Community Council, a group of residents, businesses and the Hillsborough County sheriff's community resource deputies.
For information about the event, call Buckingham at (813) 949-7481.
