TALLAHASSEE - Florida State's Joslin Shaw, a Plant City native, saw significant time at wide receiver Saturday for the first time this season. He set a career high with five receptions for 34 yards in the Seminoles' 25-6 win over Duke.
Shaw, who was suspended for the first four games of the season because of his involvement in a university academic fraud scandal, returned to the field on special teams in Florida State's Oct. 6 win over N.C. State.
The fifth-year senior is known as an aggressive downfield blocker, but has had limited playing time at Florida State, notching only 20 receptions through three active seasons.
Shaw has been working his way back up the depth chart since his suspension and finally got his chance Saturday after sophomore Damon McDaniel missed significant practice time to be with his family for the birth of his son.
MOVING ON UP: QB Drew Weatherford moved up on several of FSU's all-time lists. With 35 completions Saturday, he sits third all-time at Florida State - trailing Chris Weinke and Chris Rix - for career completions.
The Land 'O Lake native also became only the sixth Seminole to surpass 6,000 total yards for his career. He also took over 10th place for career touchdowns.
CARR DOESN'T PLAY: WR Greg Carr did not play Saturday after suffering a sprained wrist in last week's game against Miami.
Carr, who caught six touchdown passes in the past two meetings with Duke, was limited by a cast this week in practice but expected to play.
In his absence, De'Cody Fagg finished with nine catches for 134 yards, and Preston Parker pitched in with eight catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.
ROBINSON DOES IT AGAIN: CB Patrick Robinson picked off Duke's Thaddeus Lewis, the fourth straight game the sophomore has recorded an interception.
Robinson is the first Seminole to intercept a pass in four straight games since Tay Cody in 2000.
FSU's win over Duke was the Miami native's second career start at cornerback.
NO-NAME PIUROWSKI: TE Caz Piurowski of Land O' Lakes again was nameless Saturday in FSU's all-black homecoming jerseys.
Piurowski, who switched back to his old position and old number leading up to the Sept. 29 matchup with Alabama, has had a hard time getting a name tag this season.
EXTRA POINTS: NG Budd Thacker returned to the starting lineup after missing four consecutive games with a dislocated toe. ... K Gary Cismesia's missed extra point in the third quarter ended a streak of 50 consecutive makes. ... With two catches in the first five minutes of the game, Fagg made FSU's 100-career receptions list. ... FSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher coached from the field again Saturday. ...CB Jamie Robinson (groin) did not play. ...WR Damon McDaniel dressed for the game, but did not play.
