PORT RICHEY - An Evening in Black and White is the theme of this year's Bishop Larkin Catholic School seventh annual dinner and auction, which will feature a guest appearance by state Sen. Mike Fasano.
The event is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave. in New Port Richey.
'We're excited about our new venue,' said Stefanie Lowrey, who joins Karen Morgan as acquisitions chairwomen on the Bishop Larkin auction committee. 'We're planning an elegant evening out.'
Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will kick off the event, followed by dinner, dessert and dancing.
A silent and live auction will be featured, with donations from state and community businesses and organizations.
'I've been so impressed by the response of our Pasco merchants, some of whom aren't even affiliated with the school,' Lowrey said. 'They've been so giving.'
Some of the items up for bid include a diamond cross, golf and spa packages, and a plane tour of the Florida Gulf Coast.
Sports fans can check out auction items donated by the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the University of South Florida Bulls.
Additional offerings carry personal meaning for the staff and families of Bishop Larkin. Some of the faculty members, for example, are offering the school's parents the opportunity to bid on school-based privileges for their children.
Bishop Larkin moms and dads can win their children the right to be Principal for a Day, enjoy a nature hike with a teacher, or share a lunchtime Italian feast prepared by a Bishop Larkin instructor.
The students also are getting in on the act, creating art projects in their classes for the auction.
'The kids love going home and telling their parents, 'We made something in class today for the auction. Please go and bid on it,'' Lowrey said. 'It makes them feel like they're part of the experience.'
For Lowrey, Morgan, and fellow auction committee members Trudy Mathieson, Julie Potter, Stephanie Bertig, Cheryl Cominsky, Holly Hopkins and Randi Hodgson, it's all about the students.
'Between us, we have 13 children, grades K through 8, at Bishop Larkin,' Lowrey said. 'These fundraisers support their faith-based learning environment, and that's what we're here for.'
Tickets for An Evening in Black and White are $75 per person. For information, visit www.bishoplarkinauction .org.
