PORT RICHEY - Despite a downturn in the housing market, Prudential Tropical Realty is expanding with the purchase of the Marie Powell Realty offices here and in Spring Hill.
The acquisition expands Prudential Tropical to 12 locations and about 480 sales executives and employees.
'We are very bullish on the future of Tampa Bay's real estate market and we believe the time is now to invest in both resources and people,' Dewey Mitchell, co-owner of Prudential Tropical Realty, said in a statement.
'We are looking for companies that are not only a good cultural fit but companies that can assist us in expanding our market share in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.'
Powell founded her namesake company 46 years ago and became known as Florida's First Lady of Real Estate, both for her business acumen and for her service in professional organizations. Her daughter, Laurie Neiman, now has the agency's reins.
With the rapid changes in the marketplace, Neiman decided to align her company with Prudential Tropical Realty.
'Because the philosophies of both companies are so similar, it was an easy decision,' Neiman said.
Neiman will step into the role of managing broker of the Prudential Tropical office in Port Richey.
She will draw upon her more than 30 years of real estate experience. She is active in the Florida Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
Laura Hausen, who has been with Prudential Tropical Realty for more than 20 years, will stay onboard at the Port Richey office to ensure a smooth transition. Afterward, she will work at the home office as a consultant on company projects and initiatives.
