Published: October 29, 2007

WHO: Cindy Fleming

CLAIM TO FAME: Chosen Volunteer of the Year by the Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce
ACCOLADES: The chamber also picked Fleming as its Outstanding Board Member of the Year.

'Cindy is involved in the chamber and the community,' said Devin Collins, chamber president. 'She is always there as an advocate and willing to help in any way.'

AWARD PRESENTATION: She received a plaque at the chamber's annual officer installation and awards banquet Sept. 28.

ABOUT HER: A native of Biloxi, Miss., Fleming moved to Florida in 1970 with her family. In 1982, she moved to the Wesley Chapel area.

Her business, Bay Insurors in Lutz, joined the chamber in 2002, and Fleming has been on the chamber board since 2004. She is treasurer for the chamber and for the Wiregrass Ranch High School parent-teacher association. She's also a football mom, meaning she makes sure members of the varsity football team get a good meal before their weekly games.

Fleming took on a recently created job as head of the chamber's events committee. She will oversee all chamber events, the annual banquet, business expo and fundraisers.

She also recently joined the Wesley Chapel Noon Rotary club and is its secretary.

Fleming said she spends as much time volunteering as she does working.

Her husband, Chuck, works for an air-conditioning business in Tampa. The couple has two sons. Brian, 24, is a student at Pasco-Hernando Community College, and Eric, 16, is a junior at Wiregrass Ranch High School.

In her spare time, Fleming likes to read and is a 'Star Trek' fan. She also loves traveling, especially out of the country.

WHAT'S NEXT: She will be campaign treasurer for Patricia Carroll, who is running for Pasco County supervisor of elections.

HER QUOTE: 'I've always enjoyed volunteering. It's important to do what you can for your community.'
