SARASOTA COUNTY - A local rancher is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to an arrest in connection with the shooting of two of his cows.
Kenneth Bingle, 70, said on Friday that whoever shot the two cows, killing one, is a sick person.
The first shooting happened around Oct. 9 at his pasture in the 7000 block of Ibis Road, near Clark Road. That cow, which was pregnant, was shot once near the heart. The cow and her fetus died.
The second shooting happened shortly before 5 p.m. on Monday at a pasture in the 7800 block of Palmer Boulevard, a few miles east of Interstate 75.
The cow was shot above the left eye and blinded. It survived.
Venice Police Chief Julie Williams was riding her bicycle in the area at the time of the second shooting. Williams told authorities she got a good look at the suspect, a report stated. That information has not been released.
Bingle said his cows are friendly, and he does not think the shootings were a personal attack against him.
"If they had a problem with me they could talk to me and address it," Bingle said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office at 861-5800 or Crime Stoppers at 366-TIPS (8477).
