LAKELAND - Thirteen residents were given temporary shelter after being forced from a condemned Vistabula Street boarding house on Tuesday, American Red Cross officials said.
The home, 822 Vistabula St., was condemned for safety and fire code violations by local authorities, the Red Cross said. Six Red Cross workers were on the scene to provide assistance.
Police went to the home Monday afternoon and reported their concern to the Lakeland Fire Department. The fire department determined that the home was not licensed for boarding. It did not meet fire, electrical or building codes, they said.
No one has been arrested.
The property owner, Alba Viso, lives in Miami, the Fire Department said. The house has been up for sale, they said.
