A funeral will be held today for the passenger of a 2007 BMW convertible that crashed Thursday afternoon in Apollo Beach.
Rachel M. Morris, 20, of 11706 Lynmoor Drive, Riverview, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Apollo Beach Boulevard.
The BMW's driver, 21-year-old Brittany L. Romer of Gibsonton, also was injured in the crash. Her condition wasn't immediately available.
Deputies are investigating the crash, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said this morning.
Romer, of 9410 Bullfrog Court, was driving west on Apollo Beach Boulevard about 5:49 p.m. when the car went off the road on a curve east of Surfside Boulevard, deputies said. The car struck four posts, vaulted into the air and tumbled 291 feet before coming to rest upside down.
Romer was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. The sheriff's office said this morning that she is alive, but information about her condition was unavailable.
A Reader Comment on this TBO.com story, posted Friday by Morris' brother, Ian, said Romer had died. Reached this afternoon while preparing to leave for his sister's funeral, Ian Morris said he later learned that Romer had not died.
