BRANDON – Coming off a trip to Orlando where the team finished an all-time high fourth place in the KSA Volleyball Fall Classic, the Brandon volleyball team improved to 6-2 on the season with a sweep over Armwood in a Class 5A District-8 match on Wednesday.

Brandon won in three games, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23.

Brandon led 10-6 in the third game, but allowed Armwood (3-1) to go on a 13-5 run. The Hawks led 23-21 and were two points away from forcing a fourth game, but could not put the Eagles away.

"They're a good team," said Armwood coach Mike Wyatt. "I thought we made a few mistakes that hurt us in the game."

Brandon struggled with Armwood in the first game, pulling away from a 13-13 tie to win 25-20, and cruised to a win in the second game.

"You can't afford errors and you can't afford to relax," said Brandon coach Amy Watson. "The talent is there all day but when we start to relax, we get into trouble."

Sophomore Aly Woodlee led the Eagles with 15 kills while Megan Fenzau added eight kills. Mary Hegarty had 26 digs.

Morgan Tomlinson had 10 digs for Armwood while Sydney Fratarcangeli had six kills.

Watson said her team has played in the KSA Fall Classic the last four years. Out of the 20 teams to play in this year's tournament, Brandon lost twice, both to teams from California.
