Whoopi Goldberg used her first day on 'The View' on Tuesday to defend NFL star Michael Vick in his dogfighting case.

Goldberg said that 'from where he comes from' in the South, dogfighting isn't unusual.

'It's like cockfighting in Puerto Rico,' she said. 'There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country.'

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges.

In the discussion, Goldberg served notice that she won't shy away from controversy.

Co-host Joy Behar looked horrified at Goldberg.

'How about dog torture and dog murdering?' Behar asked.

For many people, dogs are sport, Goldberg replied, and it appeared it took awhile for Vick to realize he faces serious charges.

'I just thought it was interesting, because it seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized this was something that the entire country didn't appreciate,' she said.

Clarkson Ready To Rock Smaller Tour

Kelly Clarkson, who scrapped a tour this summer because of slow sales, is heading back on the road in the fall.

The Grammy-winning singer announced Tuesday that she will kick off a theater tour Oct. 14 at New York's Beacon Theater, winding down in Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 4 at Ryman Auditorium. She stops at Clearwater's Ruth Eckerd Hall on Dec. 1.

'I'm getting pumped to get out there and rock with y'all,' she said. 'We intend to blow the roof off these theaters.'

The former 'American Idol' champ had a rough summer, splitting with her manager amid friction with her record label over the direction of her third album, 'My December,' which debuted at a disappointing No. 2 on the charts. In July, Clarkson canceled an arena tour because of slow ticket sales, and organizers said they planned to re-evaluate the size of the tour.

A Baby Girl Is Just What He Needs

When Scott Baio found out he and his fiancee, actress and former Playmate Renee Sloane, were going to be parents, he hoped that it would be a boy.

'All my life, I had wanted a son,' said Baio, who is building a nursery and filming the second season of his VH1 reality show, 'Scott Baio is 45 ... and Single.'

'Of course, we are getting a girl. It wasn't disappointing, but it was just something to adjust to because I had been 100 percent sure we were having a boy.'

The once-notorious Hollywood ladies man told People magazine: 'It's just like that great Rolling Stones song, you don't get what you want, you get what you need. I needed to have a girl. It may be cosmic payback a little bit, but it needed to happen.'

Berry Expecting A Little One, Too

Halle Berry is expecting her first child.

'Yes, I am three months pregnant,' the Oscar winner told 'Access Hollywood' on Tuesday. 'Gabriel and I are beyond excited, and I've waited a long time for this moment in my life.'

Berry, 41, and her boyfriend, 32-year-old model Gabriel Aubry, met shooting a Versace ad in Los Angeles in November 2005 and first stepped out publicly three months later.

As for marriage, the twice-divorced Berry told InStyle magazine this year: 'I will never, never get married again.'
