TAMPA - University of South Florida RT Jared Carnes, who injured his right knee during Wednesday's practice, missed Thursday's workout because of a doctor's appointment.
'We're getting it checked out,' Coach Jim Leavitt said. 'We think he'll be available for Saturday's game at No. 17 Auburn, but we're unsure.'
Offensive line coach Mike Simmonds said Carnes bruised the knee but wouldn't know his status until after being evaluated.
'It depends on how Jared feels,' Simmonds said. 'If he's good to go, he'll be out there.'
Leavitt said LB Chris Robinson (ankle) will be available Saturday. CB Tyller Roberts (hamstring) and C Sampson Genus (ankle) will make their season debuts after missing last week's opener.
ODDS AND ENDS: QB Matt Grothe said the Bulls didn't run their entire offense against Elon last week and, in fact, only ran 'seven plays.' What about Saturday against Auburn? 'We'll be OK,' he said. 'We'll have plenty of plays ready.' ... Saturday's game will be officiated by SEC officials.

Meyer Seeks Game Tape From Appalachian State
GAINESVILLE - Coach Urban Meyer on Thursday said he asked Appalachian State coach Jerry Moore to send him the game film from the Mountaineers' 34-32 victory against Michigan last week.
'I want to see that game film,' Meyer said. 'That's how much respect I have for that guy. I know him fairly well.'
Moore visited Gainesville and met with Meyer during the Gators' spring practice this year.
BROWN UPDATE: Freshman DT John Brown will remain at Florida even if he is not deemed eligible to play by the NCAA Clearinghouse, Meyer said.
'He's a Gator,' Meyer said. 'We'll do everything possible we can.'
Brown has yet to hear from the Clearinghouse about his academic eligibility, but Meyer said he is proud of the way Brown has handled the situation the past few weeks.
'He's busting his tail,' Meyer said. 'He never went through an offseason program, but he's going through one now, getting in shape.'
MAKING A PUSH: Armwood graduate Torrey Davis is pushing for the starting role at defensive tackle. Meyer said Davis will not start Saturday but should see an increase in playing time.

Familiarity Looming For FSU-UAB Game
TALLAHASSEE - Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said he expects to see a lot of familiar faces when UAB visits Doak Campbell Stadium for the Seminoles' home opener Saturday. A native of Birmingham, Bowden has faced UAB twice in his 32 years at FSU, victories in 2001 and 2004.
'That's my home,' he said Thursday after practice. 'There'll be a lot of Alabama people down, you know.'
Perhaps a more interesting tie-in this year is that first-year UAB coach Neil Callaway spent the past six seasons as offensive coordinator at Georgia, where Mark Richt, Bowden's former offensive coordinator at FSU, is now head coach. In Callaway's first game last week, UAB lost at Michigan State, 55-18.
From what Bowden knows of Callaway, he said he expects the Blazers to be improved this time out.
'They've got a good coach in Callaway,' Bowden said. 'Everywhere he has been, he has been very successful.'
NOLE NUGGETS: Bowden confirmed that WR Joslin Shaw and DE Kevin McNeil will not be available to play Saturday. Both have been suspended for a violation of team rules that includes ongoing dialogue between FSU and the NCAA. ... Former Chamberlain High and FSU football player Jack Shinholser is one of seven people being inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame tonight. Shinholser was named Outstanding Lineman in the 1964 Sun Bowl and was drafted by the Washington Redskins.

Hurricanes Entering Tough Territory
CORAL GABLES - Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is 48-2 at home in his nine years. The team's only two losses were to Oklahoma State (16-13 in 2001) and TCU (17-10 in 2005).
The Sooners' home record is helped by the fact they play their biggest game - Texas - at a neutral site, but Miami coach Randy Shannon knows his team has its hands full.
'Most teams play well at home, so it is always a challenge when you go into another opponent's backyard,' Shannon said.
'Stoops does a great job and his players get excited about playing, but like I tell the players on the team, it is between the goal posts and between the yards that is going to make the difference.'
INJURY REPORT: FB Jerrell Mabry will play in the game after beginning the week as questionable. CB Glenn Sharpe, DT Josh Holmes and OL Joel Figueroa will not play.
