HOLIDAY - Ann Larsen, executive director of the Pasco Arts Council, is spearheading an effort to make the county's arts and cultural community more visible and demonstrate that it is a thriving industry that contributes to the local economy.
Larsen, who has been active in Pasco and Pinellas counties' art groups for years, left retirement to head the council last year. She soon realized Pasco's arts and cultural community is composed of a number of groups and organizations scattered throughout the county.
She decided to unite them in a professional network so they could share ideas and work together. The Pasco Creative Network met for the first time on Aug. 24, and the meeting drew a diverse crowd, Larsen said.
Art and culture are part of a growing industry that contributes to the quality of life and has a positive effect on the economy, she said.
Larsen has expressed interest in having Pasco included with Hillsborough and Pinellas counties in an economic study scheduled to be conducted next year by the Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts.
