LAND O' LAKES - County fire investigators were trying to determine what caused a single-alarm blaze that quickly consumed a mobile home near Lake Patience Road about lunchtime Friday.
When firefighters arrived just before noon, the doublewide at 20251 Oakleaf Lane was nearly burned to the ground, Acting Assistant Chief Mike Ciccarello said.
'It was heavily involved when the first unit got on the scene,' he said. 'It burned, let me tell you.'
No one was inside.
Downed power lines caused a brief delay in knocking down the flames, the chief said.
Because of the intensity of the fire, firefighters worked on protecting neighboring homes, Ciccarello said.
For some reason, he said, the mobile home park had no water service throughout, but tankers and other trucks with water had enough to handle the hoses, he said.
About 19 fire personnel responded to the blaze, which took more than two hours to clear.
Ciccarello said he wasn't certain how many people lived in the home. The American Red Cross was called in to help.
The owners are listed as Thomas and Gayle Bradley of Tampa; they also own the rest of the homes on the street, property records show.
