TAMPA - Police have charged a suspected prostitute with the slaying of a 64-year-old Tampa man found shot to death at his Cliff Circle home Wednesday.
Gale Sandra Walker, 47, was arrested this morning on one count of second-degree murder with a firearm.
Walker, of Hillsborough County, shot the man once in his right temple with a .357 revolver, according to an arrest affidavit.
Officers who went to check on Dean Babbitt Lake's welfare found him in a moderate state of decomposition. Detectives took over the investigation and determined he had been shot to death.
The shooting occurred between Aug. 19 and Aug. 23, the affidavit shows.
Witnesses told police that "the defendant admitted to shooting the victim," a Tampa police officer wrote in the affidavit. "The defendant has provided a recorded statement to police, where she admitted shooting the victim one time in the head."
The firearm that may have killed Lake was recovered Aug. 23, the affidavit states.
Walker remains in Orient Road Jail, with no bail set.
