TAMPA - About 15,000 people are expected to attend Lowry Park Zoo's $3 admission day today.
The event, which runs through 5 p.m., is held four times a year to make the zoo accessible to more people, said Rachel Nelson, the zoo's public relations director.
The zoo draws about 4,000 people on a typical Sunday and generally costs $16.95 for adults, $15.95 for senior citizens and $12.50 for children.
When the zoo hosts its four reduced fare admission days next year, the cost likely will jump to $5, Nelson said.
She said Lowry Park Zoo's top draws today include water play areas, baby white tiger cubs, African penguins and a baby elephant.
The zoo was packed about noon today, and traffic backed up along Interstate 275 and Sligh Avenue.
