LAKELAND - Two new state grants seek to expand the amount of Styrofoam being recycled in Florida.
Since 2004, more than 2 1/2 tons of the material has been recycled since the state Department of Environmental Protection awarded a grant to RecycleTech in Lakeland.
Environmental advocates hope new grants totalling nearly $700,000 will help expand the program statewide.
Four Polk County companies contribute 5,000 pounds of Styrofoam to the RecycleTech facility. All of that material formerly went to landfills.
