TAMPA - A man shot in the head while riding in the back of a pickup has died, a St. Joseph's Hospital official said.
Broderick Buchanan, 20, of 3902 E. Yukon St., Apt. A., Tampa, died Monday, said St. Joseph's Hospital spokesman William Darnell, adding that he did not have the exact time of death.
Buchanan was taken to St. Joseph's shortly after he was shot about 3:18 a.m. Sunday at North Jefferson and East Scott streets near downtown Tampa, police said.
Buchanan and friends had spent the evening at Club Underground on East Whiting Street, authorities said. They left the club in a 2004 white Ford F-150 and were stopped for a red light near Interstate 275 and Jefferson and Scott streets when the shooting occurred.
A man fired a handgun from the right side of a white, four-door Pontiac Grand Prix that pulled alongside the driver's side of the pickup, hitting Buchanan. The Pontiac sped away and headed north on I-275, authorities said.
The motive for the shooting was not known.
The passenger in the Pontiac, a late 1990s or later model with tinted windows, was described as a black man in his late teens to early 20s with reddish skin tone, short dreadlocks, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 185 pounds. He has a slender to medium build and was wearing a black tank top.
