SAINT LEO - In their third of five consecutive weekend road trips to begin the season, Saint Leo volleyball won three of four matches at the Argonaut Regional Crossover hosted by West Florida on Saturday and Sunday in Pensacola.

The Lions (9-3) claimed 3-0 victories against Albany State and Southern Arkansas on Saturday, led by middle blocker Kaitlin McKenna, who totaled 24 kills and a .559 hitting percentage in the six games.

They split two matches Sunday, beating Northern Michigan 3-1 and losing to 2006 Division II national runner-up North Alabama 3-0. Sophomore OH Chelsea Armer had 28 kills.
Saint Leo will travel to Smithfield, R.I., for the Bryant University Invitational this weekend. The Lions will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, with matches against C.W. Post, Bentley College, Mercy College and Bloomfield College.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The No. 13-ranked team in D-II won its only match of the week on Friday, 2-0 against Montevallo at University Field.

Junior Evelina Viiri scored the game's first goal (50th minute), her second of the year, and freshman Dari Alcantara's first career goal (76th minute) provided insurance.

Former Mitchell High standout Lauren Hudson registered her first shutout of the season and 15th of her career. She faced one shot on goal.

Earlier in the week, sophomore D Kristen Preseault was named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week. This week, the Lions (3-1) open the SSC season at Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, and play a nonconference home match against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday.

MEN'S SOCCER: The Lions (1-1-2) played to a 3-3 tie against Montevallo on Saturday at University Field in their only match of the week.
Saint Leo led 2-0 in the first half, thanks to a pair of goals by junior Eusabio Montoya, but after Montevallo scored three unanswered goals, the Lions still needed an 88th-minute strike from Leonardo Nogueira to avoid defeat.

Montoya leads the Lions with five goals and 11 points, while Nogueira is tied for second with two goals.

Today, the Lions face Palm Beach Atlantic at University Field, and will open SSC play at Nova Southeastern on Saturday.
