PLANT CITY - Gil Gott, executive director of the Plant City Photo Archives, will sign copies Saturday of his recent book, "Remembering Plant City: Tales from the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World."

Gott will sign books from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Espress Yourself Coffee 101, 101 E.J. Arden Mays Blvd. The book was published by The History Press, Charleston, S.C., and will be offered at about a $2 discount from its regular retail price of $21.99.

The book has 192 pages, 120 photographs and 39 stories, or tales, about the people, places and activities of the greater Plant City area. Gott wrote most of the articles.

The tales include ones about former longtime Plant City radio station WPLA and about a huge frozen food plant off Laura Street that burned in the 1970s.

Heather Davis, co-owner of the coffee shop, is partnering with the Photo Archives in the book-signing event. She said she has developed an appreciation for local history since her shop opened this spring.

A former president of the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce, Gott is an adjunct history instructor at Hillsborough Community College and has received degrees from Georgetown University in Washington and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

For information, call the Photo Archives at (813) 754-1578.
