ST. PETERSBURG - Voters decided Tuesday that Ed Montanari and Bill Dudley will vie for the District 3 City Council seat in November's general elections.
In District 5, voters chose James Bennett and Chris Kelly.
Four days after the death of council Chairman John Bryan, voters cast ballots in primaries for two of four council seats up for election this fall.
About 11 percent - or 4,526 voters - turned out for the primary, said Nancy Whitlock, spokeswoman for the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections.
e hope more people will turn out for the general elections," Whitlock said.
Voters will pick from the primary winners in each race in the Nov. 6 general election.
Montanari, 49, received 1,218 votes, according to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Web site. Dudley, 63, received 862 votes. Cathy Harrelson, 53, got 656 votes, and Cliff Gephart, 37, got 179.
Montanari and Dudley are competing to represent voters in District 3, which mostly encompasses the northeast St. Petersburg waterfront area.
The incumbent, Bill Foster, is stepping down because of term limits.
Bennett, 55, and Kelly, 41, square off for District 5, which covers the southern end of the city. Bennett garnered 1,069 votes. Kelly received 306 votes. Debra Johnson-Woodard, 55, was the third candidate, with 226 votes.
Bryan's vacancy will be filled by the council within 45 days. The council on Thursday will fill Bryan's positions on other boards, including the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and the Pinellas Metropolitan Planning Organization.
