TAMPA - Tampa Fire Rescue extinguished two one-alarm house fires this morning, with one of them resulting in minor injuries to two people.
That fire was reported about 6 a.m. at 5407 N. 48th St. in east Tampa. Fire crews reported smoke and flames coming from the single-story house. Both adult occupants were outside. The fire was under control within 15 minutes.
A woman and a firefighter were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for evaluation for minor smoke inhalation. In addition, the firefighter was being checked for dehydration. Both were expected to be released without being admitted.
An investigator from the Tampa Fire Marshal's Office is at the scene of the fire. Losses were estimated at $40,000.
Tampa Fire Rescue responded with three fire engines, three rescue cars, a ladder truck and two chief officers. There were about 20 responders from fire stations in Jackson Heights, East Tampa, North Tampa and Seminole Heights.
The second fire was reported about 30 minutes after the first at 8717 N. Edison Ave. in north Tampa. Crews reported smoke coming from the single-story house. All occupants were outside. The fire was under control within a few minutes. No injuries were reported.
An investigator concluded the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Damages were estimated to be about $1,000.
Responding to that fire were three engine companies, a rescue car, a ladder truck and two chief officers. An estimated 18 responders were sent from stations in Sulphur Springs, Hilldale, Robles Park and West Tampa.
