NEW PORT RICHEY - Two popular Pasco County bowling centers will hold various bowling-related events in the coming weeks to raise money for special causes.

Lane Glo Bowl in New Port Richey will host a fundraiser for the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The main goal of the 25-year-old national organization is to raise funds for the research to find a cure for breast cancer.

The event at Lane Glo Bowl will be held Sept. 22 beginning at 2 p.m. For every bowler that donates $20, they will receive three free games of bowling with free shoe rental. Each bowler also will receive a free gift bag.

The center will have various door prizes that day and specials on refreshments. Additionally, the center will hold a raffle and numerous silent auctions on various items, with all the proceeds going toward the Komen Foundation. For information, call Judi Moore at Lane Glo Bowl at (727) 376-1164 or the local representative of the Komen Foundation, Donna Zammetti, at (727) 372-3726. Interested parties also may visit the Komen Foundation Web site, www.komen.org.

On Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. Hudson Bowl will host an event to raise money for Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sending care packages to Armed Forces members stationed in hostile regions around the world.

Among the items Operations Gratitude purchases and ships to servicemen and women stationed abroad are food, toiletries and entertainment items. The national organization estimates it costs $8.95 per package in postage alone. Its goal is to ship out 120,000 care packages in 2007, which would cost $1.2 million.

The event at Hudson Bowl will enable bowlers who contribute $15 to receive three free games of bowling. The center also will have door prizes and hold a raffle, with the proceeds going to Operation Gratitude. For information, interested parties may call Hudson Bowl at (727) 863-5481 or visit Operation Gratitude's Web site at www.opgratitude.com.
