THE DIFFERENCE: Hernando (1-2) defensive back Jamel Byrd intercepted a pass at the 4-yard line with 21 seconds left in the game to preserve a victory against Gulf (1-2). Gulf had reached the Hernando 3-yard line before an illegal procedure penalty pushed them back to the 8.

GAME NOTES: Hernando now has a 15-game winning streak against Gulf, dating to Nov. 3, 1972. … Hernando running back George Fribley scored three touchdowns in the first half. … Hernando quarterback Lamon Neal was 0-for-5. … Gulf running back David Williams had seven carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns along with an interception in the first half.
