ZEPHYRHILLS - Family is the focus of the Health and Safety Fair, a co-presentation of the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring and the Pilot Club of Zephyrhills that will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Zephyr Park.
'We're very proud of this second annual event,' said Heather Baker, marketing assistant of the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring.
Giving will be a theme of this year's fair. The foundation will give donations to organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of Lacoochee ($7,400), Pasco County's Take Stock in Children scholarship program ($15,800), the ROCK (Reaching Out to Cancer Kids) Camp ($2,000) and the Pilot Club of Zephyrhills ($3,000).
The Pilot Club, an organization devoted to what director/event organizer Tammy Blevins calls 'raising awareness in the community for people with brain diseases and disorders,' will give away up to 18 bicycles to young people who win a drawing, as well as bicycle helmets. Blevins said car seats also will be given away at the event. Also available will be useful information from community organizations and activities such as giant slides, a moonwalk, snow cones and games.
'We'll have informational booths and giveaways,' Blevins said.
Among those offering information will be the American Red Cross, which will provide hurricane safety tips; Publix Super Markets, which will inform the public about nutritional foods and juices and bring along a dinosaur mascot for the kids; and State Farm Insurance, which will bring a 911 simulator telephone.
'This allows kids to practice and simulate 911 calls,' Blevins said.
Other presenters include Zephyrhills Fire Rescue and its cadets, who will offer information on the proper installation of car seats; WIC Nutrition, which emphasizes good nutrition for mothers and children; and the Pasco County Health Department's Healthy Start program, which will instruct people about childhood immunization.
'Squamata Reptiles will bring live snakes and turtles to give a presentation about snake safety,' Blevins said.
