With this being the sixth anniversary, some commentators have wondered whether or not 'it's time to scale back 9/11 events.'
On this anniversary, I was part of an uplifting event. I joined more than 50 people from all around the Bay area and waved the flags with the Bayshore Patriots. The fact that everyone comes together in a display of unity was the one good thing to come out of that tragic day. After all, 'United' is the first name of our country.
We were fortunate to be joined by veterans, police, fire and EMT rescue crews. Everyone has always appreciated them. However, those events of six years ago showed the dedication that our 'first responders' have, and everyone appreciates them all that much more.
We do remember those who were lost. The Bayshore Patriots have a flag that is printed with all the names of those who were lost. The son of one of my mom's friends is on that flag. With how diverse that group was, I am sure all of us have some degree of relation to someone who was lost that day.
Every year, Sept. 11 should be a reminder to come together, united as one nation.
The terrorists tried to demoralize us. They have failed. They have already lost.
