LEXINGTON, Ky. - Andre Woodson threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Steve Johnson with 28 seconds left and Kentucky shocked No. 9 Louisville 40-34 Saturday night, the Wildcats' first victory against a top-10 team in three decades.
Kentucky was about to lose its fifth in a row to its intrastate rival and had been pushed back because of a personal foul penalty. Then Johnson zipped past the Cardinals' secondary and Woodson nailed him in stride.
Woodson completed 30 of 44 passes for 275 yards and four TDs as he beat Brian Brohm, a rival dating to high school, for the first time.
Brohm's last-second desperation attempt was deflected and caught by Harry Douglas at the 10, but time expired.
RUTGERS 59, NORFOLK STATE 0: No. 13 Rutgers produced the biggest second quarter in the school history, and all it needed was 11 plays and 91 seconds to amass 277 yards and score 42 points.
Ray Rice ran for three touchdowns and Mike Teel threw for three more in the lightning-quick outburst that carried the Scarlet Knights past visiting Norfolk State (1-1).
While the result wasn't surprising, Rutgers coach Greg Schiano raised some eyebrows just before the half by calling three timeouts in an attempt to get the ball back with the Scarlet Knights (3-0) ahead 45-0.
MICHIGAN STATE 17, PITTSBURGH 13: Jehuu Caulcrick rushed for a touchdown and Travis Key ran back an interception for a score to help host Michigan State (3-0) beat Pittsburgh (2-1).
ILLINOIS 41, SYRACUSE 20: Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns, Juice Williams threw for one TD and ran for another, and visiting Illinois (2-1) beat Syracuse (0-3).
It was the Illini's first win against a team from college football's top division since a 23-20 victory against Michigan State nearly a year ago.
CONNECTICUT 22, TEMPLE 17: Andre Dixon ran for 129 yards and Donald Brown had two TD runs as host Connecticut (3-0) held off Temple (0-3).
CINCINNATI 47, MIAMI (OHIO) 10: Marshawn Gilyard blocked a punt for a safety and caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter and Dustin Grutza threw for two scores to spark Cincinnati (3-0) to a win against host Miami of Ohio (1-2).
