SARASOTA - An early morning fire destroyed a triplex and displaced three families today.
Firefighters responded to the three-alarm blaze at about 4 a.m. in the 2400 block of Leon Avenue.
The building was "fully involved" when firefighters arrived and evacuated residents, said Assistant Fire Chief Paul Dezzi.
All three units in the building were considered a "total loss," he said. The state fire marshal was expected to investigate the cause of the fire.
Dezzi said one person was being transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and might have been suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Red Cross was contacted to aid the displaced families.
