CLEARWATER - In a standard move, attorneys for Nick Bollea, the 17-year-old son of famed wrestler Hulk Hogan, are asking to photograph and videotape the Toyota Supra Bollea was driving before he wrecked it last month, critically injuring a passenger.
And in just as standard of a move, police are denying the request, according to documents released today by the Clearwater Police Department.
Stephen Romine, who is representing Bollea, with Tampa attorney Barry Cohen, acknowledged the legal standoff in a Sept. 12 letter to Rob Surette, the police department's lawyer.
"This letter will confirm that you have advised me that the Clearwater Police Department will not permit us access to the vehicle under any circumstances, until the State Attorney's Office files either a 'no information' or files a criminal charge in the matter," Romine's letter says.
A "no information'' is filed if no charges are warranted in the opinion of prosecutors.
"You further advised me that no other parties are being permitted to have access to Mr. Bollea's vehicle, except law enforcement," Romine wrote.
Bollea wrecked the Supra on Court Street on Aug. 26, police have said. His passenger, John Graziano, remains in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center. The wreck remains under investigation, and Bollea has not been charged.
