Clearwater Police Identify Shooting Victims In Home Invasion

CLEARWATER - A 22-year-old man was killed today in a home invasion, and a 39-year-old woman was wounded, Clearwater police said.

Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Daly-Watts identified the man shot to death as Joseph Shaw and the woman as Shawanda Larry. Larry was in good condition at Bayfront Medical Center, Daly-Watts said.

Shaw's grandmother and other family members had gathered near a home on Flagler Street after the pair were shot there about 3:40 a.m.

"I have a dead grandson," said his grandmother Betty Shaw James, 66. "This crime in these communities and this black-on-black crime needs to stop. It needs to stop, and whoever is listening, we need to send a message that black-on-black crime needs to stop."

Daly-Watts said the shooting came during a drug-related robbery and that police were looking for multiple suspects.
