TAMPA - The Tampa Port Authority discussed the performance of Port Director Richard Wainio on Tuesday and voted to begin negotiations on a four-year contract extension.
Wainio, whose contract expires in March, got high marks from the board, receiving the highest possible evaluation.
His annual salary is $229,465.
The port board also decided to continue funding the electric streetcar line that runs between Ybor City and downtown Tampa.
In a 4-3 vote, the board agreed to provide Tampa Historic Streetcar Inc. $150,000 a year for the next two years.
In other business, the board:
•Approved a lease agreement with Intermodal Shipping Services.
•Approved a contract for port security system maintenance and repair.
•Approved funding for sovereign lands management initiatives.
•Approved the acquisition of a parcel of land from Tampa.
•Approved an employee dental plan.
•Approved the renewal of contracts for autos, boilers, machinery and workers' compensation.
