ST. PETERSBURG The apartment where a 27-year-old woman was killed Wednesday night was a drug house, St. Petersburg police said today.
Mandy M. Sampson was at the apartment at 776 1/2 16th Ave. S. with her boyfriend and another man when there was a knock on the door just before 11 p.m., said Sgt. Mike Kovacsev, the head of the homicide squad.
Details are sketchy, but when the man who was not Sampson's boyfriend answered the door, shots started ringing out from outside, the sergeant said. Sampson, who was sitting on a couch, was fatally wounded in the chest, he said.
The slaying had drug overtones, Kovacsev said.
Sampson lived at 500 28th Ave. S. She had two sons, one 5 and the other 3, but neither was with her at the time of the shooting, and they are now in the care of relatives.
