A natural gas leak at an apartment complex on Nordica Street in the Robles Park area caused the midday evacuation of about 150 people Saturday, the Tampa Fire Department reported.
The gas leak was reported about noon. And when fire crews responded, they found excessive gas levels in the apartment. They then evacuated four buildings containing about 40 units. TECO People's Gas responded and hut down the gas. A large fan was used to ventilate the area.
By 1 p.m., the situation was under control and most people were allowed to return to their homes. The evacuation remained in place for residents of 413 Nordica, where gas company officials continue to look for the source of the leak.
One 37-year-old woman complained of not feeling well. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for further evaluation, the fire department reported.
