CLEARWATER - The rising sun may have been a factor in a collision involving a school bus Friday morning, officials said.
They said two cars ran a red light and one struck a bus taking children to St. Cecilia Interparochial Catholic School.
Eighteen children were on the bus in the 7:44 a.m. collision. After the accident they walked to the school, which was nearby, said Elizabeth Daly-Watts, Clearwater public safety spokeswoman.
Two students later reported minor injuries, and their parents were contacted, she said.
The accident occurred after Charles Anderson, 30, of Largo, ran a red light at Hillcrest Avenue and Court Street, Daly-Watts said. His car was struck by the school bus, which had a green light. A second car, driven by Maria R. Portes, 56, of Clearwater, also ran the red light and collided with Anderson's car, Daly-Watts said.
Both Portes and Anderson were cited for running a red light. In addition, Anderson was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and having no car insurance, Daly-Watts said.
