Tampa Police Officer Injured In Off-Duty Crash

A head-on collision sent an off-duty Tampa police officer to the hospital Sunday night.

SAN ANTONIO - Tampa police Officer Aimee Higgins was in a two-car accident on State Road 52 shortly before 7 tonight, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Higgins was westbound in a cruiser on S.R. 52 when an eastbound vehicle crossed the centerline and hit her head-on, Trooper Larry Coggins said.

Higgins was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. A hospital official said she was in fair condition.

The other driver, an unidentified man, was in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Hospital, Coggins said.
