Coral Gables - Coral Gables - Senior linebacker Romeo Davis will make his season debut this week.
Davis, who tore his ACL on Oct. 21, 2006, was expected to miss the entire season and redshirt. But now, Coach Randy Shannon said Davis will play on Saturday against Duke, the same team he suffered the injury against.
Davis has played in 29 games, making 13 starts, and registering 69 tackles including nine for a loss.
In 2004, he was named UM's Co-Defensive Rookie of the Year.
HOLMES RETURNS: DT Josh Holmes will also make his season debut. Holmes suffered an undisclosed injury in fall practice and was expected to be a key contributor this season. Holmes reminds Shannon of a young Warren Sapp.
TOO MANY FUMBLES: Graig Cooper has fumbled three times this year, which could open the door for Shawnbrey McNeal.
"Fumbles are not acceptable around here," Shannon said. "That's a situation that he knows he's got to work this week and if he don't get it done, he won't play. That's just the bottom line."
McNeal, a freshman like Cooper, has carried the ball nine times for 38 yards this season.
"It's easy for us, you fumble, Shawnbrey plays. Stop fumbling, Shawnbrey don't play," Shannon said.
TIME SET FOR UNC: Miami's game Oct. 6 next Saturday at North Carolina is at noon on ESPN2.
