EAST MANATEE COUNTY — A 32-year-old man driving on State Road 64 East on Monday night was shot at after two vehicles pulled up near his car, authorities said.
The driver, Gene Spearmon, told deputies he was driving his cousin's black Lincoln Town Car home from his mother's house.
He had reached Heritage Harbor Parkway about 10:30 p.m. when a white Cadillac pulled up next to his car, deputies said. A silver pickup pulled behind the Cadillac.
Spearmon said he ducked when he heard gunfire and bullets striking his car. He threw his car in reverse to escape the gunfire, according to sheriff's reports.
Authorities said Spearmon was not injured and did not see the faces of the motorists who were shooting at his car. There were no immediate arrests.
